"Lagi power! Lagi best!"

As an English editor, the Perdua Myvi slogan had to be one of the single most irritating signs that I would see during my travels around Malaysia. In English, it would translate into,"More power! More best!". But you cannot have "more best" in English because "best" is a superlative, an adjective or adverb indicating the highest degree of a quality. More than "good" is "better," and beyond "better" is "best". But there is nothing beyond "best". Therefore, to say that the Perdua Myvi is "more best" is simply terrible grammar.

But, "we understand the meaning," I hear you say. True. Despite the grammatical error in "more best," we still all understand the intended meaning of the sentence. However, potential buys who spot the grammatical error will invariably have their confidence in the automative manufacturer undermined. If a company is prepared to go to market with a sloppy advertising slogan, what else might they be sloppy with? Can we, as consumers, really have confidence in the quality of the product when they company shows no regard for the quality of their advertising slogan?

And THIS is why you need to think about the quality of your written materials. Consumers will often judge your company and your products based on the written materials that they are first presented with. And errors of spelling and grammar say to potential clients that you don't really care about quality.
